Since Ian’s September 2022 landfall, it has become apparent birds were least affected and plants and animals, that depend on the island’s inland freshwater environment were most affected. Future summer rainy seasons will continue to dilute the saltwater contamination and inland conditions in Sanibel’s sloughs will improve.
